There have been five movies till date in the Jurassic series and the technology or the VFX have gone through a major transformation in the past two decades bringing in a world of change. However, the thrills or goose bumps we felt witnessing the first film in the series directed by Steven Spielberg (in the single screen theaters in 1993) were never felt again in the same quantity and measure in all the subsequent films.

The three recent releases were all average to above average films that were widely appreciated by the viewers mainly due to the cast or the individual merits arousing the spirit of nationalism. However in reality, they were actually not true to their chosen genre with contradicting execution and content not matching their inviting taglines.

Here are some revealing afterthoughts on the three that might force you to reconsider, knowing more about their conflicting presentation.


102 NOT OUT - A contradicting message oriented film, completely relying upon its cast. (Review by Bobby Sing)

An unusual kind of story revolving around just two characters of a father and a son, 102 NOT OUT has some noteworthy merits to its credit in terms of the intention and performances of two veteran artists of our Hindi cinema. But at the same time it also lacks a lot in terms of cinematic adaptation of Saumya Joshi’s Gujarati play, which overall results in a heartfelt but not so engaging or impactful film trying to give a relevant social message with a surprisingly contradictory conclusion.

But the plot is not entirely a novel one, as it was earlier seen in Anil Sharma’s THE HERO: Love story of a spy (2003) and Chetan Anand’s HINDUSTAN KI KASAM (1973), which interestingly also revolved around 1971 war.

The film is about the individually chosen lives and relationships of four girls (as fast friends since school) and is certainly not any usual girls-movie witnessed by Hindi Cinema till date. Punjabi Cinema’s most successful phase began with both CARRY ON JATTA and JATT AND JULIET winning over the viewers in 2012. And since then comedies featuring a major star and (almost) same supporting cast have been the safest bet for the producers proved by many continuing successes till date.

Interestingly the film titled PHAMOUS got released like an unknown, stuck film somehow reaching the theaters after a long struggle. And further adding to the irony it turned out to be a project that completely wastes each and every name included in its cast, who otherwise are all well-known established performers famous for their individual acting skills or screen presence.

What was being expected from the film was an out of the box, fresh, Indian take on the concept of Superhero impressively conveyed by the well-designed artworks, posters and promos. But probably they worked much harder on the publicity campaign of the film than the film itself as it completely fails to make any kind of impact on the viewers except the honesty in its characterization of the three lead protagonists and the realistic references in the script.

Studying from that angle, we still stand far behind the developed nations and ARAMM (meaning Good Deed) brutally reveals the truth with its hard hitting real life inspired drama raising many pertinent questions.

Brilliantly directed by the young & exceptionally talented Nag Ashwin, MAHANATI is a beautiful biopic of an immensely popular legendary actress of our Indian cinema. And can simply be quoted as a not to be missed 3 hours nostalgic journey back to the decades of 50s and 60s with a worth-praising presentation, cinematography, music and outstanding individual performances by the entire cast.
